Born in Jennings, Florida, she was the oldest daughter and one of seven children of Lausie Lee and Joseph D. Sullivan. Raised on a farm, she began teaching four grades in a one-room schoolhouse after graduating from high school. She enlisted in the United States Marines during World War II and became a flight instructor at Camp Pendleton in California. After the war she moved to the Chicago area and worked as a radio broadcaster and enrolled at Northwestern University, receiving her B.A. degree in Communications in 1949.
She married her husband of almost 60 years, Anderson Fox, in 1950. They first lived in Evanston then moved to Northbrook, IL in 1953. Mr. and Mrs. Fox had three children, a daughter Penelope (Penny), and two sons, Peter and Charles (Casey). While living in the Chicago area Mrs. Fox was very active in her church and in the Northbrook Junior Women's Club. The Fox family moved to Darien, Connecticut in 1964 and Mrs. Fox began teaching in the local schools. She earned a Masters degree in Education at the University of Bridgeport in 1973 while teaching at Tokeneke Elementary School, and later taught at Holmes School in Darien.
Mrs. Fox was very active in St. Paul's Episcopal Church where she taught adult Bible Study classes. She was also an avid bridge player and gourmet cook, hosting memorable dinner parties. She and her family also enjoyed almost fifty summers vacationing at Crystal Lake in northern Michigan. In 2001, Mr. and Mrs. Fox moved to Bucks County, PA.
Mrs. Fox was predeceased by her husband, Anderson, in 2010, and by a grandson, Spencer Barnett in 2008. She is survived by one sister, Dorothy Leutner of Jennings, Florida, and her three children, Penelope Fox Parkin of Newtown, PA, Peter A. Fox of Stockton, CA and Charles S. Fox of Middleton, WI. Also, Mrs. Fox is survived by three grandchildren, Lydia Barnett of Portland, Maine, Samuel Fox of Los Angeles, and Edith Fox of New York City.
