Elaine Marie McGary, “Tootie” of Richboro, died peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at Richboro Care Center, Richboro. She was 80.
Born in Abington, Tootie was the beloved wife of Robert H. “Bob” McGary, Sr. Mother of the late Robert H. McGary, Jr. and daughter of the late George R. and Ellen Marie Rucker and sister of the late John Rucker.
In addition to her beloved husband Bob, she is survived by her daughter, Joy Ellen Marie; she is the proud grandmother of Joseph McGary (Kyle) and Jimmy Barruzza, and the great grandmother of Mackenzie Marie McGary and Joseph Robert McGary. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Carol Rucker, brother-in-law Warren McGary and his wife Dorine and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
Tootie was a resident of Richboro most of her life, she was a graduate of Council Rock High School, class of 1956, where she met her beloved Bob. She received her Bachelors Degree in Nursing from the University of Maryland, and worked for several years as a nurse a Bellefonte Hospital, while attending Penn State University working on getting her degree in Floriculture.
Tootie worked as a nurse for several health care facilities in the Bucks County area, most recently Statesman Nursing Home in Levittown. Tootie’s educational background was in health care, her creative background was in horticulture, having worked in her youth for her parents who owned and operated Rucker’s Greenhouse and Gardena growers in Richboro. After Bob’s military service and their graduation from college, she and Bob expanded the family business to include Bright Leaf Landscape Center and Florist that operated until their retirement a few years ago.
Tootie enjoyed being with her family, her children and grandchildren who brought a smile and a twinkle to her eyes. She enjoyed swimming and she still looked forward to making creative flower arrangements for family and friends. She was a life long member of Addisville Reformed Church and volunteered her time for several organizations in the community. She will be sadly missed by her devoted family and for her creative floral ideas.
Tootie and Bob have had many health challenges in the past few years, thankfully Joseph and Kyle moved in with them and made life so much more manageable and Bob is forever grateful.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Thursday March 28, from 9:30 am until her Funeral Service 11:00 am at Addisville Reformed Church 945 Second St. Pike, Richboro. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Richboro.
Contributions in her memory may be made to Addisville Reformed Church at the above address.
