Bernard J. “Bernie” Johnston Retired Philadelphia Police Officer of Richboro and formerly of Greater Northeast Philadelphia died peacefully surrounded by family on March 4, 2019.  He was 76.

Born in Philadelphia, Bernie was the beloved husband of 53 years to Gloria Cichaczewski Johnston and the son of the late Joseph F. and Helene M. Madgett Johnston.

Bernie was a man of service to others who served our country in the Army during the Vietnam War and continued his service as an Officer of the Law with the Metro Police in Washington D.C., the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Police, and the Philadelphia Police Department.  He was an avid reader and he enjoyed learning about the Civil War, but above all he cherished the times spent in Sea Isle with his beloved family and close friends.  Bernie will be greatly missed but eternally loved by everyone who had the pleasure to have been in his life.

In addition to his wife Gloria, Bernie is survived by his loving and devoted Children: Debra A. Heaney and Joseph of Jamison, PA and Bernard J. Johnston, Jr. and Melissa of Bensalem, PA.  He is also survived by his 3 dear grandchildren Patrick, Elizabeth, and Adam and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Friday, March 8, 2019 from 10:00am until his Funeral Mass 11:00AM at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 654 Hatboro Rd. Richboro, PA 18954. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Bensalem.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Fox Chase Cancer Center, 333 Cottman Ave. Phila., PA 19111.
