Madeline D. McCandless of New Hope died peacefully onTuesday, February 19, 2019 at Doylestown Hospital. She was 91.
Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late John P. and Madeline Kramer McCandless and the sister of the late John and William McCandless, Helen Murphy, and Sr. Maria Augusta, SSJ.
Madeline graduated from the nursing program at Philadelphia General Hospital as an RN, and remained on staff there for over 25 years. She continued her career by caring for children as a School Nurse for over 15 years with the William Penn School District. Madeline was an avid fan of the Philadelphia sports teams and for many years she held season tickets for the Flyers, Phillies, and Eagles. She was a very generous person who gave to many charities and organizations throughout her adult life. Madeline was a devout Roman Catholic and a faithful and active parishioner at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Madeline will be greatly missed, but her memory will be forever cherished in the minds and hearts of those she loved.
Madeline is survived by her loving and devoted siblings: Joseph M. McCandless and his wife Mary of Newtown and Kathryn Cooper of Yardley. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Friday, February 22nd from 10:00am until her Funeral Mass 11:00am in Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 5175 Cold Spring Creamery Rd. Doylestown, PA 18902. Madeline’s interment at Calvary Cemetery in Conshohocken, PA on Saturday will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the IHM Community at Camilla Hall, 100 Maxis Dr. Malvern, PA 19355 or to St. Joseph Villa, 110 West Wissahickon Ave. Flourtown, PA 19031.
