Carmen (Lewis) Bryant, of Philadelphia, died on Sunday, January 27, 2019, at Penn Hospice at Rittenhouse. She was 81.

Born on July 18, 1937 in Philadelphia, she was the loving daughter of the late Hampton and Catherine (Cobbs) Lewis.

Carmen was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System, attending West Philadelphia High School.  She enjoyed summers with her family in New Rochelle, NY, as well as the beaches of Atlantic City, NJ.

In 1966, Carmen gave birth to her “one” son, Craig, whom she dedicated her life to nurturing. She and Craig lived in Philadelphia, PA, Lindenwold and Willingboro, NJ, before finally settling back in Philadelphia.

Carmen was a driven woman - holding several jobs, most notably, her career with the Willingboro Police Department as a radio dispatcher.  She also spent time at Jerry’s Corner, where she held a storefront space selling second-hand items.  She eventually retired and became a caregiver to her grandsons.

She was an extremely generous person who gave her time to anyone who was in need.  She didn’t have much herself, but always sought to give others the things that she thought they needed without provocation.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and her “sister” friends - attending parties or just enjoying a homecooked meal.  Everyone knows that Carmen appreciated a good phone call – and if you were lucky – she’d call you to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ on your special day.

She is survived by her “one” son, and his wife Gina of Chalfont, and her three dear grandchildren; Myles, Noah and Chloe; and many friends who are too numerous to name.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing from 1:00 until her Funeral Mass, at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at St. Raymond of Penafort Church, 1350 E Vernon Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19150.  The Mass will be immediately followed by a repast in the church hall, and her interment will be held privately at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to St. Raymond of Penafort Church, 1350 E Vernon Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19150.
