It is with great sadness that the family of Doris Kenneth Daly announces her passing on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at the age of 90 years.
Doris was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1928 and in 1965 eventually settled in Huntington Valley, Pennsylvania with her late husband, Daniel Daly, and their five children.
She earned a degree in Education from the University of Minnesota and later obtained a master’s degree in Counseling from Villanova University. Doris and her daughter, Doreen, earned doctorates in Psychology from Temple University in 1989.
Doris began her career as a guidance counselor at Archbishop Ryan High School and later served as a guidance counselor at LaSalle College High School and Bishop McDevitt High School. She retired in 1998.
Doris was involved with the Women's Center of Montgomery County, serving on the original board on which she developed a Women in Transition program. Doris also created an after-school program at Lower Moreland High School to provide low-cost activities to students. The Olde Church of Saint Andrew held a special place in Doris's heart, as her late-husband's uncle, Father Daniel J. Daly, was a long-time pastor. Doris was a dedicated volunteer, helping to manage various church activities.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Doris loved doting on her children and grandchildren, especially during the Christmas season (gift bags from Grandma were bottomless). She will be remembered for her faith, resilience, independence and devotion to her family, as well as her iconic red lipstick and love of Boscov’s. Doris is survived by her children, Timothy Daly, Doreen Daly-Barnes (Jack), Eileen Daly Farnan (Robert), Kerry Daly and Daniel Daly (Jennifer) and her grandchildren, Bridget Hummel (Matt), Kristin Daly-Barnes, Meghan Farnan, Connor Farnan (Jillian), Samuel, Colin, Olivia, Ava and Michael Kelly. She will be forever missed and loved by her family and friends.
Visitation will be held at the Olde Chuch of Saint Andrew located at 135 S. Sycamore Street, Newtown, PA 18940 from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday January 11th, 2019. Mass will follow at 11 a.m. Her interment will take place privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Doris' name to Saint Jude Children's Cancer Research Foundation, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
