 Frederick “Fred” Caldwell, Jr.

Frederick “Fred” Caldwell, Jr. died peacefully on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at Southampton Estates,   Southampton. He was 93.

Born in Philadelphia, Fred was the beloved husband of the late Jane Edelman Caldwell and dearest father of the late Fred Caldwell, III, son of the late Fred Sr. and Alice May Caldwell and brother of the late George and Jack Caldwell.

Fred was a graduate of Northeast High School and a proud veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II and the Korean War, aboard an amphibious Landing Dock ship, an active member of American Legion Post # 79 in New Hope and Bucks County Chapter of the VFW. He was a resident of Southampton for the past 3 years having formerly lived in Churchville for over 40 years.  Fred worked as a master plumber for over 60 years and was a member of the Plumbers Union # 690, working on many major construction projects in the Greater Delaware Valley Area.

He enjoyed working in his garden and was especially proud of his tomatoes. He looked forward to watching and getting to a Phillies game and was a true fan, even when they played poorly.

Fred was a true patriot and true American. When he found out that the Veterans Administration was looking at the Washington Crossing area for a National Cemetery he was on board. Before the decision was made, Fred spearheaded an effort to gain support for bringing the National Cemetery to Washington Crossing and the Guardians organization. He was named as # 1 (aka the First Guardian of the Washington Crossing National Cemetery). He proudly raised the American Flag at the dedication on September 16, 2008 and as of this date 16,251 veterans and family members have been buried in Washington Crossing National Cemetery.

Fred is survived by his daughter, Lisa A. Caldwell and his daughter–in-law Colleen Caldwell. He is also survived by his two grandchildren: Fred Caldwell IV and his fiancée Stephanie Weicker and Elizabeth Jayne Mulvey.

Relatives, friends and members of the Guardians are invited to attend his viewing on Funeral Wednesday, December 5, 2018 from 9:00 am until his Funeral Service 10:30 am at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd.) Richboro. Interment  11:30am at Washington Crossing National Cemetery with Full Military Honors, Taps and Rifle Volley provided by the Honor Guard of Washington Crossing National Cemetery.
