Maria A. Dowd Mazza of Newtown died peacefully surrounded by her sons and family on Thursday October 25, 2018, at Chandler Hall Hospice, Newtown. She was 67.

Born in Philadelphia, Maria was the beloved daughter of Rosemary Burns Dowd and the late Aloysius J. Dowd, Jr. and sister of the late Aloysius J. Dowd III.

Maria was a graduate of Bishop Conwell High School, class of 1969. She was a Communicant of St. Andrew Catholic Church and a resident of Newtown since 1990. Maria worked as a clerk for the Penn Central Railroad for 10 years before becoming a Police Communications Officer with the Pennsylvania State Police, working at the Trevose Barracks; she retired in 2016 after 15 years of exemplary service.

Maria was all about family, her 2 sons, they made her eyes sparkle. She was an avid reader, and looked forward to family gatherings and family vacations at the Jersey shore, her outgoing manor and loving ways will be sadly missed.    

Maria is survived by her 2 devoted sons, Michael V. Mazza, and Matthew C. Mazza, her 2 brothers and their wives Edward Dowd and his wife Diane, Jack Dowd and his wife Kathy. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Maria’s family will receive condolences on Tuesday October 30, 2018 from 10:00 am until her Funeral Mass 11:30 am at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 81 Swamp Rd. Newtown. Interment will be held privately.
