Eileen C. McCrane, of Sewell, NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 24, 2018 at Victoria Mews Assisted Living in Boonton, NJ. She was 85. She was a long-time resident of Richboro, PA before moving to Sewell and, finally, to Victoria Mews.
Born in Philadelphia, Eileen was raised by her mother, Mary Niewodowski Manyak but was most molded by the steadfast, loving hand of her grandmother, Josephine Niewodowski, and her doting uncle, Walter Niewodowski. The family was active in St. Ladislaus parish in Nicetown. She attended high school at St. Mary’s Academy and nurses’ training at St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia. She met her husband, Jim, while working as a dentist’s nurse, when he came in with a broken jaw. They bonded over reading the same book, made their first date to see “Around the World in 80 Days” and married 7 months later.
She was a registered nurse who spent the last 20 years of her career at St. Joseph’s Manor in Meadowbrook. But her true calling was as a mother. She was fiercely loyal to her family and all those she loved. Her unconditional love, selflessness, and corny sense of humor were unparalleled. She had a strong moral compass which she passed on to her children. If you crossed her family member, however, her grudge-holding could be epic.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James J. McCrane, Jr. She is survived by her children: James McCrane, III (Dorothy), Paul McCrane (Dana Kellin), Maureen Corson (Woody), Barbara McCrane (Paul Reale) and Deirdre McCrane (Jack Farmer). She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many devoted nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing from 10:00am until her Funeral Mass 11:00am on Saturday, September 29th in St. Andrew Catholic Church, 81 Swamp Road, Newtown, PA 18940. Eileen’s interment will follow in Newtown Cemetery in Newtown.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. (stjude.org).
