Robert A. Sutherland, a 51 year resident of Richboro and a resident of Cape May Point, NJ, passed away Saturday October 25, 2014 with his loving family by his side. He was 84.

Bob was the beloved husband of 63 years to Lillian M. Armstrong Sutherland.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Henry and Katharine Birney Sutherland.

Bob was a graduate of Olney High School and went on to serve proudly in the United States Naval Reserves and then actively with the Navy during the Korean War. He met his beloved wife, Lillian, on the boardwalk in Wildwood and their shared love of the beach would last well into retirement.

Bob was employed for 33 years with the Reading Railroad from where he retired, his last position having been as treasurer. During that time he attended night school at the former Philadelphia College of Textile and Sciences, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.

Bob was a lifetime member of the Northampton Township Fire Company where he served as treasurer for many years.

He enjoyed yard sales, attending auctions and was an avid boater and fisherman. Bob also loved to golf and most especially he treasured spending time with his beloved wife and family at their home in Cape May Point, NJ. He will be dearly missed.

In addition to his wife Bob is survived by his children, Dorothy Johnson and her husband, Maury, of Landenberg, PA, Pamela Allen and her husband, Bob, of Newtown, and Bob Sutherland and his wife, Jan, of Holland. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Erinn, Katelynn, Jamie, Niall, Conor, Christian, and Brigit; five great-grandchildren, Greyson, Carson, Allianna, Quinn, and Mckayla; and his siblings, Kathryn Wassinger of Philadelphia and Doris Woodrow of Southampton.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Saturday November 1, 2014 from 9:00 AM until his Funeral Service 11:00 AM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd.), Richboro, PA 18954. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Richboro.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s name to Chandler Hall Hospice, 99 Barclay St., Newtown, PA 18940.
