Thomas A. Lyons, Jr., of Newtown died peacefully in the arms of his beloved wife and family on Friday, September 14, 2018 at Chandler Hall Hospice. He was 78.
He was the loving husband of 54 years to Kathryne A. Young Lyons.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Tom was the son of the late Thomas A., Sr. and Florence Wnorowska Lyons.
Tom was a proud graduate of Northeast Catholic High School and LaSalle University. He had a successful professional career at the Department of Defense and Rohm & Haas. Tom served in the Navy and was a member of the Guardians of the National Cemetery at Washington Crossing National Cemetery. Tom was a dedicated parishioner at Saint Andrew Catholic Church for nearly three decades and loyally served as an usher at the Saturday evening Mass. Tom enjoyed sports and had been an Eagles season ticket holder since the 1950s, but he was especially proud of cheering for his children and grandchildren at their games, on the stage, and through their many achievements. An avid cyclist, Tom could often be found on long distance rides on the backroads of Bucks County and proudly finished 30 MS City to Shore rides.
Tom and Kay enjoyed road trips up and down the East Coast, as well as their summer vacations in Wildwood Crest, NJ with family and friends over many decades.
In addition to his wife, Kay, Tom is survived by his loving and devoted children: Kathryne Lyons and her husband Jonathan Teplitz of Manhattan, Thomas A. Lyons III and his wife Kyra of Silver Spring, MD, Peter Lyons and his wife Susan of Pittsburgh, and Joan Lyons-McGinley and her husband John of Holland. He is also survived by his dear grandchildren: James Aloysius Lyons, Alexandra Rose Teplitz, Kayleigh Joan McGinley, Garrett William Lyons, Maura Kathryn Lyons, Fiona Elizabeth McGinley, Charlotte Niamh Teplitz, Owen Patrick McGinley, Benjamin Thomas Lyons and Niamh Sheridan McGinley, his brother Ronald Lyons, sister Barbara Gordon, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Monday, September 24, 2018 from 10:30 am until his Funeral Mass 12 Noon in St. Andrew Catholic Church, 81 Swamp Rd. Newtown, PA 18940. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery.
