Frederick Joseph “Freddy” Gallagher III of Sellersville and formerly a 51-year resident of Hatboro, PA, passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at his home at the Rockhill Community, following his courageous struggle with cancer. Fred was surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was 78.
Fred is survived by his adoring wife, Sue Ellyn Woodrum Gallagher with whom he had shared 55 years of marriage.
Born in the Germantown section of Philadelphia on June 20, 1940, he was the son of the late Frederick Joseph Jr. and Margaret Mary Eisenhardt Gallagher.
Answering the call, Fred enlisted in the National Guard and served in the reserves for five years. He married Sue Ellyn Woodrum in May of 1963. Together they served as volunteers with the Hatboro Enterprise Rescue Unit from 1971 to 1983. Fred also served on the Board of the Upper Moreland-Hatboro Joint Sewer Authority for several years. He loyally served SPS (Standard Press Steel Technologies) for 47 years before retiring in 2002.
In addition to his adoring wife, Fred is survived by his two children: Frederick “Bud” Gallagher, IV and wife, Sandy, of Quakertown and Lori Gallagher-Landis and her wife, Judy, of Franconia Twp. He is also survived by his adored grandchildren, Tyler and Connor Gallagher of Doylestown, Karen Mampe of Jeffersonville, Alyssa Smoot of Sinking Springs and Justin Smoot of Camp Hill, PA; his sister Sally Ann Gallagher of Virginia; and his sister-in-law, Barbara Gallagher.
The family would like to offer special thanks to the extended family that helped to surround him in love during his final days.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his brother, John (Jack) Joseph Gallagher of King George VA.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Joseph A. Fluehr Ill Funeral Home, 241 East Butler Ave. (at Sandy Ridge Road) New Britain, PA 18901 and on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 from 9:30 AM until his Funeral Mass 10:30 AM at St. Jude Church, 321 West Butler Ave., Chalfont, PA 18914. His interment will follow in St. John Neumann Cemetery, Chalfont.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you cherish Freddy’s memory by making contributions in his name the Fox Chase Cancer Center, 333 Cottman Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19111-2427.
