Philip Joseph Matarese, Jr. of Newtown died peacefully on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Chandler Hall Hospice in Newtown. He was 70.

He was the beloved husband of 39 years to Barbara Ann Nigro Matarese. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Philip F., Sr. and Inez Mollica Matarese.

Philip was a graduate of Rahway High School, received his B S Degree from Rutgers University and his MBA from St. John’s University.

Philip had a distinguished career with the Social Security Administration for over 30 years; he was the District Manager of the Cherry Hill office which was the largest in the state of New Jersey. He was also a member of the New Jersey Army National Guard from 1970 to 1976.

Philip gave his time and talents to his community, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and past Grand Knight of Our Lady of the Hills Council # 5959 in Martinsville, New Jersey, was a volunteer Park Ranger in Somerset County, New Jersey, and also volunteered at the Martinsville Library. He was also a Boy Scout in his youthful years. In the not too distant past Philip ran the New York and Philadelphia marathons. Philip was also a volunteer at ground zero for the 9/11 victims families.

Philip and his family moved to Bucks County in 2003 when he retired, he continued to enjoy jogging, antiquing, was an avid reader of murder mysteries. He transferred his Knights of Columbus membership from Our Lady of the Hills to the RV Hennessy, Council 6145, of Newtown.  

He will be remembered for his love of family, God and his country.     

In addition to his loving wife Barbara Ann, Philip is survived by his loving daughters: Dana Pallanti and her husband Michael of Newtown and Lauren Philpott and her husband Daniel of Newtown.  He is also survived by his grandson Timothy Philip, his three brothers Emil, Lawrence and Leonard  Matarese and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.        

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewings on Thursday, June 28, 2018 from 2:00 pm to 4:00pm and from 7:00pm -9:00PM and on Friday morning from 9:00am to 10:15 am in the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd.) Richboro, PA 18954 and to his Funeral Mass  at 11:00am at the Church of St. Andrew, 81 Swamp Rd. Newtown, PA 18940.  Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Newtown.

In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to Chandler Hall Hospice, 99 Barclay St. Newtown, PA 18940.
