Douglas A. Mealo of Sellersville passed away with his loving family by his side on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at Grandview Hospital.  He was 71.

Doug was the loving and devoted husband of Donna C. Wehmeyer Mealo with whom he had shared 9 years of marriage.

Born in Camden, NJ he was the son of the late Dante and Naomi Mealo.

Doug had an innate passion for serving others and following graduation from Camden High School he would go on to proudly serve his country with the United States Navy.  Upon being honorably discharged from the Navy he continued straight into his 40 year career with the Abington Township Police Department.  While there he would earn numerous commendations, served as honor guard supervisor, on the Narcotics Task Force, and perhaps most notably, started and supervised the department’s K-9 unit for 21 years.  He undoubtedly left a mark on not only Abington’s Police Department and his fellow officers, but on the countless lives he impacted through his dedication to public service.

In addition to his wife, Doug leaves behind his children, Douglas A. Mealo Jr. (Mary), Jason Riegel, and Kelly Wright (Jim) and his adoring grandchildren, Tara, Cory, Rhenton, and Ariah.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Chuck Riegel; his grandson, Dougie Mealo; and his sister, Paula Mohr.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects to Doug’s family on Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 10:00 AM until his Memorial Service at 12:00 PM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 E. Butler Ave. (at Sandy Ridge Rd., New Britain, PA 18901.  His interment will be private.
