Walter W. Henkel of Richboro died peacefully on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Doylestown Hospital, Doylestown. He was 78.
Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, Walter was the beloved husband 49 years to Marjorie E. Van Hart Henkel and son of the late Lillian M. Gajkowski and father of the late Eric M. Henkel.
Walter was a resident of Richboro for the past 48 years. He attended Valley Forge Military Academy and was a graduate of Oaklyn Military Academy. He received his undergraduate degree in Accounting from Rutgers University and his Masters Degree from National Graduate Trust School at Northwestern University.
Walter’s professional career spanned over 51 years as a Trust Officer for several banks starting with Continental, Mid Atlantic, PNC Bank and retiring from Harleysville as Senior Vice President and Trust Officer. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force serving as an Intelligence Officer during the Vietnam Conflict.
Walter was an active member of the Addisville Reformed Church and gave his time and talents to his community, serving as former Chairman and member of the Northampton Township Municipal Authority, a member of the Police Pension Fund Board and the Northampton Historical Society. He was an avid reader, especially of Civil War and Military History. Walter was a 32nd Degree Mason belonging to Newtown Lodge #427 as well as a Shriner for many years. He will be remembered for his firm handshake and care of others.
In addition to his beloved wife he is survived by his son Matthew Henkel and his wife Julia.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet Walter’s family on Monday, May 21, 2018 from 10:00am until his Funeral Service 11:00am at the Addisville Reformed Church, 945 Second Street Pike, Richboro. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Union Cemetery, Richboro.
In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to Addisville Reformed Church Memorial Fund, at the above address.
