Rita A. Keenan, a long-term resident of Langhorne, PA, passed away on May 13, 2018 at The Birches of Newtown following an illness. She was 85.
Rita was born in Brooklyn, New York to the late John and Wilhelmina Behlen Madden; she was the beloved wife of 59 years to the late Vincent J. Keenan. She is survived by their five children, Vincent Jr. and his wife Cindi of Langhorne, Paul and his wife Lisa of Buckingham, Nancy Huffman of Naperville, IL, Timothy and his wife Diane of Jamison, and Mary Mullen and her husband Thomas of Downingtown. She was also a Grandmother of seventeen and a Great Grandmother of six. Rita is also survived by her sister Mary Jane McGrath of Williamsburg, VA.
Rita was a long-term employee of the Neshaminy School District where she was the secretary to the Assistant Superintendent. Rita really enjoyed her time at Neshaminy and especially treasured being part of “The Cherry Street Gang,” the nickname for her group of coworkers who often reunited over lunch or dinner to reminisce and share some laughs.
Rita was always one to try a new hobby or craft. She especially loved flower arranging and took great pleasure in being a member of the Four Lanes End Garden Club in Langhorne. She competed in local flower shows and very much enjoyed being involved in their annual Holiday House Tour. She took great pride in being instrumental in its planning and success.
Rita was quick to make friends wherever she went. She treasured her long term friendships with those from her old neighborhoods of Highland Park and Sunny Hill. She also loved meeting new people; no one was ever a stranger to Rita after getting to know her for just a few minutes. She will be sorely missed by family and friends alike.
The Keenan Family would also like to extend their thanks to all the parishioners of her parish, The Church of St. Andrew, where she was a faithful communicant. To her caretakers over the past few months, for they were humbled by the care and compassion she received, especially in their mother’s last days. They thank her caregivers for making this last memory of Rita one of dignity and grace.
Rita’s family will receive condolences on Friday May 18, 2018 from 9:30 am until her Funeral Mass 11:00am in the Olde Church of St. Andrew 135 Sycamore St. Newtown. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery.
