George R. Funk Jr. of Newtown died peacefully on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Arden Courts of Yardley. He was 88.

George was the beloved husband of 66 years to Mildred Schaaf Funk.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late George R. Funk Sr. and Florence Mulhausen and the step son of the late Margaret Funk.

George was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force who served our country during the Korean War and was called to serve his brothers and sisters in arms as a member and one time Commander for the American Legion’s Morell Smith Post 440 in Newtown. In his private life, he became a small plane pilot and earned his instrument license. George was briefly an employee of the Bell Telephone Company and then a part owner and manager of a Shop n’ Bag super market in New Jersey for many years. He was an active member of St. John’s United Methodist Church by participating in many activities and also by singing in the church choir for over 40 years. George’s two favorite vacation places were having fun and relaxing with family at Ocean City, NJ and sitting by Lake Jamie in the Poconos. He will be deeply missed by his family and by all who came to know him.

In addition to his beloved wife Mildred, George is survived by his loving and devoted children: Lynne Kemler and her husband Roland, Kathy Bristow and her husband John, and George R. Funk and his wife Vanessa.  He is also survived by his six loving grandchildren, four dear great grandchildren, and his sister Maryann Posey.

George’s family will receive friends from 10:00am until his Funeral Service 11:00am on Friday, May 18th in St. John’s United Methodist Church, 820 Almshouse Road, Ivyland, PA 18974.  George’s interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park in Feasterville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the St. John’s United Methodist Church.
