John Joseph DeMatteo of New Britain Township went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 26, 2018 at his home with his family by his side. He was 90.

John was the devoted husband of Anna Luisa (Ann) Corti for 58 years.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late Gabriel and Carmina Cassella DiMatteo. He was forever grateful to his parents who made many sacrifices so that he could have an education.

In addition to his beloved wife, John is survived by his three children, John G. DeMatteo and his wife, Stefania, of Quakertown, Maria L. DeMatteo and her husband, James McKenzie, of Marysville, OH, and Cristina A. DeMatteo and her husband, Paul Darreff, of Chalfont.  His greatest joy was his 7 grandchildren; Jennifer (John), Pearson, Emily, Angela, Gianna, Vanessa, Liliana and great-granddaughter Madison.

John was a navigational engineer for the Navy Department for 38 years, ending his career working in research and development at the US Naval Air Development Center in Warminster, PA.  He thoroughly enjoyed his work, his colleagues and the opportunity to travel the world. He received recognition in his field including four patents.

John graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and earned both his undergraduate (Electrical Engineering, 1951) and graduate (MBA Industrial Engineering, 1959) degrees from City College of New York.

He was a proud Italian-American: a long-time member, former board member and contributor to the National Italian American Foundation. A sports fan, he enjoyed playing golf well into his 80s and was a long-time NY Yankees fan. He maintained life-long friendships with his Brooklyn buddies.

His family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, May 5th from 11:00 am until his Funeral Mass at 12:00 pm at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church 100 Broad Street, Hilltown, PA 18927.  His interment will take place at a later time in St. John Cemetery, Queens, NY.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106.
