Dorothy Anne Richards of Warminster passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Abington-Jefferson Health Hospice at Warminster with her loving family by her side. She was 87.
Born in Pittsburgh she was a daughter of the late Edward Milton Bailey and Gladys Anne Hurlbert Bailey and mother of Kathleen A. Richards and the late John T. Richards Jr.
Dorothy was a loving, caring and devoted mother. She was also proud of her career as a draftswoman, having been the first female in that role to join Union Switch & Signal. Her talents helped her to lead a long and varied career until her retirement from the facilities department of the Unisys Corporation.
Dorothy was a funny, sweet, tough, and fearless woman and ever proud of her Irish heritage. She treasured countless visits to Cape May, NJ, a place that became very special to her over the years and where she celebrated many birthdays with her family. Dorothy was a wonderful artist. She has many paintings and sketches of Cape May scenery, especially the lighthouse – her favorite subject.
Everyone around Dorothy simply adored her and she was beloved by many in all the different facets of her life. At the age of 62 she moved to Florida all on her own, as it had always been a dream of hers and she showed much strength when she lost her son, one of the hardest times in her life.
Dorothy possessed a strong and steadfast constitution that shined through even in her days on hospice when she amazed medical professionals at how she continued to do well against the odds. Most of all she will be dearly missed by all the many whose lives she touched.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Kathleen Anne Richards and her wife, Martha L. Fowler, of Chalfont and her grandchildren, Hannah and Olivia Richards and there mother Jane Nechin, as well as her niece Debra Bass and husband Gordan and their daughter Sarah.
In addition to her son and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Edward M. Bailey Jr. and his wife Ruth and her sister Gladys “Babe” Colbus and her husband, James.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Thursday, February 15, 2018 from 3:00 to 4:00 PM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 E. Butler Ave., New Britain, PA 18901. Her services and interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Dorothy’s memory to Abington-Jefferson Health Hospice at Warminster, 225 Newtown Rd., Warminster, PA 18974 or to the Humane Society of the United States, 1255 23rd Street, NW, Suite 450, Washington DC 20037.
