Michael M. Picozzi, 87, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2018. He was born on September 29, 1930 and was a resident of New York his entire life. Michael was an accomplished educator in the Long Island New York School System for over 35 years, first, as a science teacher, then as the Science Department Chairman, and later as a principal for many years.
Michael received many degrees in higher education to include a BA in Bio Chemistry from Hofstra University, an MS from State Teachers College, New Paltz, NY, and a doctoral internship at Teachers College, Columbia University. Michael was a life member of the National Science Teachers Association; a member of Phi Delta Kappa, a national honorary education fraternity, and the N.E.A. He was a US Army veteran.
Upon retirement, Michael enjoyed many interests and hobbies. He loved reading, spending time at the beach, working with his hands in the trades or, as his family would say, “being the fixer upper.” He most especially enjoyed spending precious time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was always there for anyone who needed him in life’s journey. Michael enjoyed life to the fullest, whether traveling to his homes in Florida or upstate New York, spending time with family and friends or just taking long walks with the love of his life, Teresa. Michael was a devoted husband, very caring, kind, and generous. He was the best father any child could ask for and the most honest man anyone had the pleasure of knowing. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Michael was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Rachael Picozzi, his mother and father-in-law, Angela and Frank Mazzilli, and his brothers James and Thomas Picozzi. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Teresa Mazzilli Picozzi, his sons and daughters-in-laws: Frank and Suzette, Michael and Alyson and Matthew and Noelle Picozzi and his daughter and son-in-law Corinne and Mark Campion and his three sisters, Mary Broman, Paula Hoey and Rosanna McWilliams. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Thursday, February 1, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00PM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home Funeral 241 E. Butler Ave. (at Sandy Ridge Rd.), New Britain and to his Funeral Mass, Friday, February 2, 2018 12:00PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church 5175 Cold Spring Creamery Rd. Doylestown, PA 18902. His interment will take place privately.
