Margaret E. Hahn, of Harleysville formerly of Southampton died on Monday, March 17, 2014, at The Birches at Arbour Square, Harleysville. She was 93.
She was the beloved wife of the late Adolf Hahn.
Born in Germany, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Caroline Kuenzlen Brenner.
At the age of 6, Margaret and her family moved to Philadelphia. She graduated from Olney High School, and then Margaret started a job at Hahn’s Bakery, where she met her husband to be, Adolf Hahn. They married in 1940 and together opened Hahn’s Pastry Shop in 1950 on Castor Ave. in Philadelphia. Then in 1960 they sold the business and moved to Southampton.
Their departure from the business was short lived, for in 1963 they opened Hahn’s Bakery in Warminster across from Archbishop Wood High School. In 1983 they retired from the day to day operations handing them over to their son, George, who continued the business until selling it 1996.
Margaret was an avid reader and greatly enjoyed the challenge of doing crossword puzzles. She was a skilled pinochle player and also loved going to Atlantic City with her husband where she would try her luck on the slot machines. Her memory will be cherished as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
She is survived by her son A. George Hahn, of New Britain her three grandchildren, Kelly and John Shea, Kerri and David Schlegel, and Kara and William Sakoutis. She is also survived by her 8 great-grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, Alexa, Olivia, Grace, Avari, William and John.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Monday, March 24, 2014 from 9:00 am until her Funeral Service at 11:00 am at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 E. Butler Ave., (at Sandy Ridge Rd.) New Britain, PA 18901.
Her interment will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery, Huntingdon Valley.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Margaret’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
