Elizabeth C. Schneider (nee Schaeffer), of Southampton, PA, after a courageous 22-month battle with cancer, died peacefully with her family at her side at the inpatient hospice unit of Holy Redeemer Hospital on Friday, January 12, 2018.  She was 58 years old.

She was the beloved wife of Bernardin “Bernie” M. Schneider for 35 years.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of Joseph Schaeffer of Emmaus, PA and Maria Birgel Liberto of Langhorne, PA.  She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Mathias and Franziska Birgel; her stepfather, Charles Liberto; her stepmother, Eleanor Schaeffer; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Emil and Franziska Schneider; her Weimaraner, Angel; her beloved Beagle, Moose; and her rescue, Maggie.

In addition to her loving husband and parents, she is survived by her son Paul Schneider of Los Angeles, CA and her son and daughter-in-law Edward and Sharnell Wharton of Doylestown.  She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Sage and Anthony Wharton; her brother, Joseph Schaeffer of Langhorne; her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Anne and Joseph Fusco of Holland, PA, her stepbrother Vincent Liberto of Baltimore, MD; numerous other relatives and dear friends; and her perpetually hungry puppy, Skeeter.

Liz was a true Renaissance woman.

She loved nothing more than spending time with her family and friends and helping anyone in need.  She was an avid gardener and loved animals.  Liz enjoyed adventures in the great outdoors and loved to go fishing, camping, hiking and so much more.  She also traveled to many places both near and far.

Liz was a fantastic cook, a creative crafter, crocheted beautiful blankets and scarves, and had a knack for decorating and design. In the last few months of her life, she found great peace in using her colored pencils to color in intricate designs and then use these creations to make cards and bookmarks that she would gift to her family and friends.

She obtained her Master’s Degree in Social Work and began her professional career working with at-risk adolescents.  Her first job as a social worker was working in Texas at a wilderness camp for teenage girls.

Liz also had a real estate license and worked for several years as a realtor.  While working fulltime, raising a family and taking care of her home, Liz also managed the family business known as Schneider Brothers.

She was most passionate about her final career, that as a hospice social worker.  Nothing was too much for Liz when it came to meeting her clients’ needs. She worked tirelessly to see that they were met.

Liz devoted her personal and professional life to helping others. She drew her strength and nearly inexhaustible energy from the beauty of God’s creations in nature. She put other’s needs ahead of her own and was the protector, supporter, and nurturer of her family and friends.  Liz had an uncanny ability to connect with people emotionally and spiritually and often understood a person’s problem before the person knew it.

Liz’s family will receive relatives and friends at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 2nd St. Pike and Knowles Avenue in Southampton, PA 18966, on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 9:00AM until 10:30 AM.  Her funeral Mass will begin “promptly” at 11:00.  Her interment will be held privately.

Liz gave of herself freely, helping all those in need with never expecting anything in return. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, her family asks that “random acts of kindness” be performed in memory of Liz.  Also, if you wish, a donation in memory of Liz to Children Tabor Services, would be appreciated.  Checks can be mailed to Children Tabor Services at 57 East Armat Street, Philadelphia, PA 19144.  Please write Elizabeth Schneider in the memo portion of your check.
