Robert Bruce Bennett, of Warminster, PA died on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at Ann's Choice Rose Garden. He was 88.
He was the beloved husband of 49 years to the late Philomena Fanelli Bennett.
Born in Ardsley, PA he was a son of the late Joseph Scott and Mary Gordon Bennett and brother of the late Joseph J. Bennett and Jack G. Bennett.
Bruce grew up in Ardsley and graduated from Abington High School. As a teenager, Bruce worked part-time for the Asplundh Tree Expert Co. In his early teens he met the love of his life “Phyl” whom he married in March of 1951. Then in October he joined the Army and proudly served his country for two years before being discharged in April of 1953 to the Army Reserves.
Upon his return home he resumed working for Asplundh and remained with them until 1992 when he retired after 46 years of dedicated service. After retiring from Asplundh, Bruce spent several years working part-time with Guardian Angel of Huntingdon Valley.
An avid reader, Bruce would consume the newspaper everyday and could regularly be found with a book in his hand. He mostly enjoyed westerns however, he could also be found with a good mystery.
He is survived by his sons, R. James Bennett and his wife Denise of Doylestown, Dana Bruce Bennett and his wife Frances of North Wales and Gary Bennett and his partner Joe Vaccaro of Glenside, his sister in law Noreen Bennett of Quakertown and his cousin Betty Stokes of Roslyn. He is also survived by his two beloved grandchildren Ryan and Brianna.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 10:00 AM until his Funeral Service at 12:00 PM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 East Butler Ave., (at Sandy Ridge Rd.), New Britain, PA 18901. His interment, with military honors, will be held privately for the immediate family at Sunset Memorial Park at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market Street Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106 or Abington Health Foundation – Reimagine Cancer / Asplundh Cancer Pavilion, 1200 Old York Road, Abington, PA 19001.
