Richard C. Thornton, of Buckingham went home to the Lord on Sunday December 17, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was 93.

He was the loving husband of the late Elizabeth for over 73 years. Born in 1924 in Franklin, PA he was one of eight children to the late Roy and Ruth Veeard Thornton.

He is survived by his children, Richard (Dorothy) Thornton, Sandra (Harry) Ciaccio, his grandchildren: Jeffrey (Cheryl) Thornton, Troy (Lisa) Thornton, Kimberley Graffeo, Kelly (Robert) Brown, Michael (Amanda) Ciaccio, and Nicole Ciaccio.  He is also survived by his 11 great grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Dick spent his early years in Northwest Pennsylvania before moving to Philadelphia as a teenager.  He was a true car enthusiast and from an early age he would be found near them, under them or simply tinkering with them.  Throughout and following High School, Dick worked in an Auto Body Shop where he gained great experience and skill as a technician.  Then in 1948 he set out on his own and opened Dick’s Body Shop, his first location, in the Germantown section of Philadelphia before moving it to Willow Grove where he remained until 2010 when he retired after 62 years in the business.

If Dick wasn’t working on a car you would most likely have found him throwing darts or shooting a game of pool.  And if he was doing that he was more than likely taking his opponents for a few dollars.

Dick’s family will receive condolences on Thursday, December 21, 2017 from 9:00am until his Funeral Service 11:00am at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 E. Butler Ave. (at Sandy Ridge Rd.) New Britain, PA 18901.  His interment will follow in St. John Neumann Cemetery, Chalfont.

Memorials in his name may be made to the Ascend Hospice 108 Cowpath Rd #3, Lansdale, PA 19446.
