Stanley D. Mathews a life long resident of Newtown, died peacefully on Thursday, July 6, 2017 surrounded by his family at The Birches in Newtown. He was 90.

Born in Newtown Stanley was the beloved husband of 68 years Helen Yates Mathews, son of the late Kirk and Ethel Cooper Mathews and brother of the late Harry Mathews and brother-in-law of the late Sidney T. Yates Esq.

Stanley was a graduate of Newtown High School. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy; member of the “Tin Can Sailors” Stanley served on the USS Ordronaux in the South Pacific, and was honored as the Grand Marshall at this past Memorial Day parade in Newtown.  He worked for CW Schrenk Builders for over 29 years as a master finish carpenter, retiring in 1995.

Stanley was also a member of the American Legion Post # 440 of Newtown, the Disabled Veterans Association and the Newtown Reliance Company. He was truly a family man, his family came first, he enjoyed working around his home, tending to his tomatoes’ and playing bingo, Stanley was an avid Phillies fan no matter if they won or lost, he still supported them.  He will be remembered for his strength of character and his precision workmanship.

In addition to his beloved wife Helen, he is survived by his son’s and their spouses; S. Donald Mathews, Jr. and his wife Debbie, Gary L. Mathews and his wife Barbara, his 2 brothers and their wives Jac  K. Mathews and his wife Joan, Robert Mathews and his wife Jean, He is also survived by 5 dear grandchildren; Amie Kiryluk, Kara Johnson (Dan), Laura Albrect (Carl), Kathryn Goodrich (Peter), BJ Kiryluk (April) and 7 great grandchildren.

Stanley’s family will receive condolences on Monday July 17, 2017 from 10:00am until his Funeral Service 11:30 am at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd.) Richboro. Interment with Military Honors will be in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown.

In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Eastern PA., 100 N. 20th Street Suite 405, Phila, PA. 19103.
