Edward A. Mitchell Jr., 83, of Linfield, PA died peacefully on Friday, July 7, 2017, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.
Born in Philadelphia, Ed was the beloved husband of 46 years to Eileen J. Karpowicz Mitchell and son of the late Edward A. Sr. and Rita Mink Mitchell Nelson.
Ed lived in the Linfield, Collegeville area for over 40 years. He graduated the Milton Hershey School with the class of 1952. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1962 in the Armored Division. After the service Ed became a Mechanical Engineer, getting his degree from Temple University.
His professional career spanned 30 years, during which he worked for such companies as Burroughs Corp., Univac Corp., United Engineers and Westcode Inc.
Ed was a people person who had plenty of energy when he retired in 1996. He worked part time for Eagle Systems, Redner’s Warehouse and Sears Hardware. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Parish in Spring City and an active member of the Freedom Valley YMCA in Royersford.
He will be sadly missed for his warm smile and welcoming words and true friendship to all.
In addition to his beloved wife Eileen, Ed is survived by: his loving children Edward A. Mitchell III, Jeanmarie Harty and her husband Cheyenne Harty; his two brothers Nicolas Nelson and Nils Nelson; and his sister Carole Edwards and her husband Bob. He is also survived by his adoring grandson Sean Edward Harty.
Edward’s family will receive condolences on Thursday July 13, 2017 from 9:00 am until his Funeral Mass 10:30 am at St. Joseph Church 3640 Schuylkill Rd. Spring City, PA., 19475. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Freedom Valley YMCA, Spring Valley Branch 19 West Linfield Rd. Royersford, PA 19468 or Transition House 425 East Cota St. Santa Barbara, CA 93101.
