Julia Verrecchia (nee Pisano), age 89, of Philadelphia and Sardegna, Italy, passed away on June 23, 2017 at Doylestown Hospital.

Julia was born in Sardegna, Italy on Feb 8, 1928. As a young woman, she become a nun and cared for orphans. She was sent to the United States in 1951 to carry on her mission.  Soon after arriving in the US, she left the order and moved to Philadelphia.  In becoming a citizen and learning English, she found love in a fellow Italian immigrant, Antonio Verrecchia. The two were married in 1959 in Philadelphia.

Julia was a loving mother and grandmother, her passion for food and music allowed her to spoil her four grandchildren with a bottomless cookie jar, and wonderful meals that she created for the family to share.  While standing at the stove, with a wooden spoon in hand she sang cheerful Italian songs.  Her love for her homeland brought her back to Sardegna, and she and her husband split her time between her two countries. Several years after her husband’s death, she moved back to the Philadelphia-area to stay close to her family.

She is survived by her children Maria Middleberg and her husband Barry, Gabriele Verrecchia and his wife Kathleen, Anna Duca and her husband Stephen; four grandchildren: Lee Middleburg, Jenna Pizzi, Courtney Verrecchia, Anthony Verrecchia and his wife Brittany; and a great-grandson, Anthony J. Verrecchia.

Julia's family will recieve friends on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 from 6pm until the memorial service  in her honor  at 6:30 p.m. in the Joseph A. Fluehr  III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Road (at Holland Rd.) Richboro, PA 18954.
