1stLt. Garrett C. Cheung, of the United States Marine Corps passed away unexpectedly on April 22, 2017 in Oak Island, NC while stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune.  He was 25.

Garrett was the beloved son of Alexander C. and Florence Kwok Cheung and the loving brother of Brigette Cheung.

A native of Philadelphia, Garrett graduated from Conestoga High School in 2009, where he excelled in academics earning, among many others, the Congressional District Scholar award and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Penn State University in 2012.

Garrett was selected as a Baccalaureate Fellow with the National Institutes of Health where he performed research on Developmental Neuroscience.  He was also an active member of the Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company.

In 2015 Garrett followed his heart to join the United States Marine Corps. He was commissioned as an officer on November 24, 2015, and became Heavy Equipment Platoon Commander, Engineer Support Company of the 2D Combat Engineer Battalion.  His service with the US Marine Corps is an accomplishment of which he was most proud.

An avid runner since high school, Garrett completed several marathons.  He was a Philadelphia Flyers Fan, enjoyed travelling around the world, fine cuisines and quality coffee.

Garrett was upstanding, selfless, gentle, cheerful, and the list goes on.  There are simply no words to express how much he will be missed and how fortunate those who knew and loved him are to have had him in their lives.

In addition to his parents, Alexander and Florence, and his sister Brigette, Garrett leaves behind his paternal grandmother, Cheng Luenying as well as countless aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, friends, and comrades in arms.

Garrett’s Funeral Services were held privately in Richboro, PA followed by Interment with Full Military Honors in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.
