Virginia Morsbach McNickle of Doylestown, PA, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.

She was 93 years young.

She was the beloved wife of the late George W. McNickle, Jr. Born in Philadelphia, Virginia was the daughter of the late Francis E. and Adeline D. Waldron Morsbach. She was preceded in death by her dear sister Phyllis Morsbach McNickle and her loving son H. Bruce McNickle.

Virginia and George married on June 19, 1943, in Philadelphia. They celebrated their life together surrounded by family and friends. They also traveled extensively in Europe, Canada, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and the United States.

In 1979 they moved to Doylestown from Churchville to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Virginia retired from Strawbridge & Clothier in 1987 after 25 years of employment. She remained committed to charitable service throughout her life, beginning with volunteerism for the Red Cross during World War II and continuing with service to the Village Improvement Association of Doylestown Hospital, the International Association of Logopedics and Phoniatrics, Shriners Hospital, the Central Bucks Senior Center, various local nursing homes, and the Elwyn School in Media, PA.

She had many special talents and interests including making braided rugs, raising African violets, reading, bird watching, playing cards, bowling, and attending the theater. The members of her card groups, bowling teams, the “girls” from Strawbridge & Clothier, and her sisters in Chi Sigma Sorority’s Alpha Iota chapter were dear to her.

Virginia’s church family at the Carversville Christian Church was an important part of her life. There she served as a deacon and a member of various committees.

Left to carry on Virginia’s legacy are her daughter Susan M. Bertolet and her husband G. Richard Bertolet, Jr. of Dublin, PA. She was the best Nana in the world to Jennifer L. Bertolet, Elizabeth A. Bertolet, Colleen P. McNickle (Hal Ferguson), and Kimberlee K. McNickle (Jason Kozlosky). Virginia cherished time spent with her grandchildren and celebrated their many accomplishments.

She was a much-loved aunt to many nieces and nephews, including Phyllis McNickle Stanley [and the late Thomas F. McNickle], James T. Stanley, Pamela S. Wetzel (Charles Wetzel), Gavin and Gwyneth Wetzel.

Virginia will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved her.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service on Sunday April 2, 2017 at 1:30, at Carversville Christian Church, 3736 Carversville Road, Carversville. Virginia’s family will receive condolences starting at 12:30 pm. Interment will be private.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory be made to The International Rett Syndrome Foundation 4600 Devitt Drive Cincinnati, OH 45246, or The Carversville Christian Church at the above address.
