Hilda Barby, “Oma”, of Philadelphia passed away peacefully on March 22, 2017 with her loving family by her side at Abington Hospital-Jefferson Health.  She was 98. 

Hilda was the beloved wife of the late Karl Jocher and the late Richard Barby. 

Born in Germany, she was a daughter of the late August and Anna Helmeck Off. 

Hilda was known for her fierce independence and energy.  Her creativity was without measure.  She was especially talented at sewing and crocheting.  Many friends, family, and fellow members of the Immanuel Lutheran Church congregation enjoyed her afghans, stuffed animals, and other works she shared throughout her life.  She also loved to cook and was an exceptional baker.  Hilda will be forever missed for her kind, gentle nature and loving devotion to her family.

Surviving are Hilda’s daughter, Inga Ast and her husband, Armin; her grandchildren, Eric Ast and his wife, Elizabeth, Kurt Ast, and Michael Ast and his wife, Angela; and her great-grandchildren, Eric, Jr., Alexandria, Rebecca, Zoe, and Emmett.  

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 from 10:00 AM until her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 14100 Worthington Rd., Philadelphia, PA 19116.  Her interment will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery, Huntingdon Valley.
