Gale Roth-Flail of Newtown passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 11, 2017 with her loving husband and family by her side at Chandler Hall Hospice in Newtown after a valiant struggle against Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. She was 67.
Gale was the beloved wife of Russell Flail with whom she shared over 40 years of marriage.
Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Melbourne L. Roth Sr., and Edna James Roth.
Gale was proud to be a Registered Nurse having earned her degree in Nursing from Penn State University. She was employed for many years for the former Eastern State School and Hospital and had most recently been providing compassionate care to the residents of Pickering Manor in Newtown.
In addition to being a wonderful wife and mother, Gale had many interests and hobbies which included cooking, gardening, pottery, crafting, music, youth baseball, thrift stores, and children’s books. Gale was always willing to be a caregiver to family and friends going through illnesses and other problems. She particularly loved the company of children and the elderly and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
As a child Gale moved with her family to the West Bristol section of Bucks County. A very involved student, Gale graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1967 where she was a member of the National Honors Society, Future Nurses Club, and Editor-in-Chief of her yearbook.
Since childhood, Gale always knew she wanted to be a nurse. She worked several years as a lunch truck driver while pursuing this goal before receiving her degree from Penn State.
A longtime resident of Newtown, Gale was a member of The Society of Friends at Wrightstown Meeting, and spent several years as a First Day School teacher. She would frequently volunteer to help out at her children’s schools and also volunteered her service to Newtown youth baseball for many years despite her busy schedule.
Gale was a creative person who expressed this creativity through various craft projects. She was skilled at creating pottery mosaics, calligraphies, and annual handcrafted Christmas ornaments.
Gale loved to listen to music whenever she could. In particular she enjoyed singer-songwriters including Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Warren Zevon, Bob Marley, Karla Bonoff, J.D. Souther, Miranda Lambert, Keith Urban, ZZ Ward, and many others.
Gale was grateful for the compassionate care of the many doctors, nurses, and aides who cared for her during her difficult illness. Her immediate family is also thankful for the great support offered by many relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Gale is survived by her sons, Rick Flail and his wife, Stephanie, Tyler, Shane, and Brett Flail; her granddaughter who she adored, Harper Flail; her siblings, Melbourne L. Roth, Jr., Cheryl Veith and her husband, Fred, Karen Barrett, and Dawn Roth-Beishl and her husband, Matt. She also leaves behind her nieces and nephews, Danielle, Free, Michael, Ariel, her Godson Jeff, Josh, Olivia, and Ava and her great-nieces and nephews, Ella, Nao, Milo, her Godson Sammy, Isabelle, and J.J all of whom she loved dearly.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Friday, March 17, 2017 from 10:30 AM until her Celebration of Life in the Manner of Friends at 12:00 PM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd.), Richboro, PA 18954. Her interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the charity of one’s choosing.
