Joseph John Leahy of Warminster, PA and Ocean City, NJ died peacefully on March 1, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 80.
He was the beloved husband of Dorothy Cleary Leahy and the two would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary in May.
Born in Philadelphia he was a son of the late John M. and Anna V. Mooney Leahy.
Joe graduated from North Catholic High School with the class of 1954 and went on to serve proudly with the United States Army in Company B. 1st Brigade 3rd Infantry in Fort Myer, VA (Old Guard) and four years in the reserves in Philadelphia. He led a long career in the food industry working for Frankford Grocery, Fleming Foods and his own food brokerage firm.
Along with his wife, Joe was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Southampton.
He was a rare combination of someone who had a love of life and a firm understanding of what was important — the simplicity of living a life with those you love. He loved his family beyond measure, always helped anyone in need and always left you with a laugh and a smile.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Brian (Kathleen), Joseph (Andrea), Diane Musselman (David), Alison Kahli (Mounir) and Megan Holt (Kirk); and his brother Francis Leahy. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from 10:00 – 11:15 AM in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 611 Knowles Ave., Southampton, PA 18966 where his Funeral Mass will begin at 11:30 AM. His interment will follow in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Prospectville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s name to the PA Dept. of Military and Veterans Affairs at www.dmva.pa.gov.
