Viola H. Dougherty Young, of New Britain Township died peacefully on Friday February 24, 2017, at Neshaminy Manor. She was 82.
She was the beloved wife of 62 years to Richard "Dick" Young. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of Viola Cane Dougherty and the late Edward Dougherty.
Viola was a resident of New Britain, for 33 years. She was a graduate of the former Upper Southampton/Warminster High School, (now William Tennant High School), class of ‘52. Viola worked for several years as a Secretary for the Centennial School District before becoming the Bookkeeper for R.V Young Fuels Inc., New Britain Borough where she worked for over 29 years before her retirement in 2000.
Viola was a very positive and motivated woman; she was active with her children in their formative years. She loved spending quality family time in Sea Isle City, New Jersey and looked forward to bowling with the ladies from Nativity of Our Lord parish bowling team in Warminster.
Viola will be sadly missed by her devoted and caring family.
In addition to her beloved husband and mother, she is survived by her sons and their spouses Michael Young and his wife Denise of Warrington, Mark Young and his wife Mary of New Britain, her dear sister and brother, Jean Sheldon of Hatboro, Edward Dougherty, III, and his wife Nancy of Ottsville. She is also the devoted grandmother of Richard, Christopher, Michael, Mark, Kristy and the great grandmother of Aiden, Aubrey, Lilly, Ava and Everly.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Saturday March 4, from 9:30 am until her Funeral Service 11:00 am at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home 241 E. Butler Ave. (at Sandy Ridge Rd.) New Britain. Interment Doylestown Cemetery, Doylestown.
