Marie McGee Sweeney, an original resident of Levittown, died peacefully at St. Mary’s Medical Center on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014. She was 86.
Marie resided most recently at Twining Village in Holland; prior to that, she enjoyed living in her condo in Tapestry.
Born in Philadelphia, Marie was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Louise (Prat) McGee. She graduated from West Catholic High School for Girls in 1945 and worked for the US Navy, Bell Telephone, Trenton Trust and Educational Testing Service, from which she retired in 1994.
Marie was the unrivaled baker in the family and an excellent cook. She was very active in Aid for Friends as a cook and a visitor for as long as she could drive. She was one of the first parishioners at St. Michael's in Levittown, later joining St. Bede's in Richboro where she was active in rosary and adoration. She greatly loved her family, the church and especially the Blessed Mother.
Marie was the beloved wife of the late William Hugh Sweeney and the loving mother of James and Nancy Sweeney, Langhorne, Peg and Kevin Horan, Tabernacle, NJ, William Jr., Chino Hills, CA and Nannette and Brian Quenzer, Langhorne and the late Patricia Maguire and the late Michael Sweeney. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Gretchen, Jenny, Ryan, Megan Elizabeth, Jim, Megan Patricia, Jacqueline, Laura and her 11 great grandchildren. Marie will also be missed by her sister, Sister Marita Louise of Immaculata, PA and her brother and sister-in law, Tom and Rose McGee, Boothwyn, PA and sister-in-law, Rita McGee, Glen Mills, PA. She was preceded in death by her other brothers and sister, Joseph, Edward “Bud”, Carolyn (Sheehan) and Francis.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Thursday, April 24, 2014 from 8:30 am until 10:15 am in the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd.) Richboro, PA 18954 and to her Funeral Mass at 11:00 am in St. Bede the Venerable Church, 1071 Holland Rd. Holland, PA 18966.
Interment will follow in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery, Langhorne.
