Virginia J. Vandegrift (Thompson)
On November 28th, 2016 our beautiful mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Virginia J. Thompson Vandegrift, slipped away into a dream. She was 85 years old.
She was the beloved wife of 64 years to William J. Vandegrift. Born in Hoboken, N.J. she was the daughter of the late Capt. Hedley V. and Annie Tatum Thompson. Ginny was the sister of the late H. Vernon Thompson.
As written by her grandson…on August 17th, 1952 our grandparents gazed into each others eyes and vowed to a life of love, loyalty, passion and respect. Even though their marriage on this earth has come to an end, but in his eyes and her heart, they are still and will always be together.
Virginia “Ginny” was extremely involved in our wonderful community. She was the President of the Junior Woman’s Club from 1962-1963; President of the VIA from 1976-1978 and Treasurer of Doylestown Hospital. She was also involved with Lenape Valley Foundation for many years. In January of 1963, Bill and Ginny opened an appliance store in New Britain, Pa., Bill Vandegrift, Inc., where Ginny and Bill worked side by side for over 43 years.
In addition to her loving husband she is survived by her children; James R. Vandegrift, William H. Vandegrift and his wife Jan and Terry Bender and her husband Robert. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Lindsay Vandegrift Smith and her husband Damien Smith, William Taylor Vandegrift, James Bender and his wife Carrie, Keith Bender, Kerri Scampton and her husband Robert Scampton, Christina Bender and her finance Matt and Jeffrey Bender. Ginny is also survived by 9 great grandchildren.
In memory of Virginia, the family is having a private family memorial on 12/27 when all of her grandchildren are in town for the holidays. The family would also like to thank everyone at Pine Run Community for taking such wonderful care of Ginny.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either the Lenape Valley Foundation, 500 North West Street, Doylestown, PA 18901 or the Village Improvement Association of Doylestown, 595 West State Street, Doylestown, PA 18901.
