Alfred M. Smith, 90, of Bucks County PA, passed away on November 28, 2016.

Al was born October 15, 1926 in Kortright, NY, to Stearns and Laura Lavandier Smith. He grew up in Upstate New York, on a dairy farm. While studying at Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio, he met and married Sally Royal Smith. After graduating from Muskingum College, Al served in the United States Air Force, during which Al and Sally enjoyed living in Paris for three years. He worked for Philco Ford as an Electrical Engineer for many years, specializing in communications. He traveled to Helsinki Finland and Vienna Austria for extended periods to support communications for the SALT Talks, and later traveled to Vietnam, working on other US Government communications. He also co-founded a successful electronics business, which developed and distributed energy management controllers across the U.S.

Al spent approximately 60 years living in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where he and Sally raised their family. Al loved his family. He was a good, kind, and honorable man, which will be his greatest legacy. His favorite hobby was flying his airplane, which he did up until just a few years ago. He loved animals, especially dogs, and passed that affection on to all of his children and grandchildren.

Al is survived by his brother, Don Smith; four children and their spouses, Mark A. Smith, James A. Smith, John A. Smith, and Laura E. (Smith) Owen, and eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Royal Smith, who passed away in January 1992; and his parents, his brother Stearns Smith, and his sister Jeanne Smith Moore.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather and share memories of Al on Tuesday Evening December 6, 2016 at 5:30 PM at Giuseppe’s Pizza, 990 2nd Street Pike, Richboro, PA 18954. For those not able to attend, condolences may be sent to Jim Smith, PO Box 93, Wycombe, PA 18980.

Al often quoted the Serenity Prayer, and kept a printed copy on his dresser for many years. He lived by these wise words: “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference.”
