Albert P. Roeper, 100 years of age of Newtown, PA passed away surrounded by his loving family on November 13th 2016.
Born in Astoria NY, he lived an amazing life that saw him be part of the development of in-flight refueling, the rockets that took us to the moon and defended our country, and the automobile airbags that protect our families every day. He would be the first to say that his greatest accomplishment in life was his loving partnership with Ruth – his wife of 73 years – and his devotion to his family and friends.
“Al” lived in Lower Makefield for 40 years and was a resident of Pennswood Village, Newtown since October 2003. He was a graduate of Pace University, a W.W.II veteran of the Signal Corps and a Captain in the Air Force. He started work at the Bank of New York in 1933. At the time of his retirement in 1983, he was Vice President – Finance and a director of Thiokol Corp. and a director of Morton International. He was active in the Financial Executives Institute as well as in the Institute of Management Accountants serving as Chapter President and National Director. He was a member for fifteen years and Chairman for seven of the Pennsbury Joint School Building Authority and served on the Lower Makefield Township Planning Commission for 20 years being its Chairman for many of those.
He was an active member of the Lutheran Church, serving as a youth counselor for many years followed by membership on a number of Synodical Committees as well as being a delegate at a number of National Conventions. For the last thirteen years he was a member of the Interdenominational Congregation at Pennswood.
He is survived by his wife Ruth; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and John Tracey of Yardley, PA; son and daughter-in-law Robert and Lori Roeper of Yarmouthport, MA; grandchildren, John P. Tracey and wife Sonja of Westport CT; Amy Tracey of New York; Jessica Roeper Duncan and husband Jared of Severna Park, Maryland; and great grandchildren, Juliet, Jackson and Jaden Tracey; Wyatt and Gwendolyn Duncan; and Ella Tracey. He is also survived by his brother Louis who lives in Sayer, Pennsylvania.
Interment was held in the Chapel of Peace, Sunset Memorial Park, Feasterville, PA. A Memorial Service will be held in Penn Hall at Pennswood Village, 1382 Newtown-Langhorne Road, Newtown, PA 18940 on January 7, 2017 where friends and family are welcome to celebrate his life.
