Gerhard “Gary” H. Rilling, of Warwick, PA died on Saturday, October 1, 2016, in Abington Hospice at Warminster. He was 80.
He was the beloved husband of 59 years to Elaine “Lonnie” Moroff Rilling. Born in Gomaringen, Germany, he was the son of the late Helmut and Gertrude Schaefer Rilling.
Gary grew up in Germany and at the age of 13, with his family emigrated to the United States, settling in the Frankford Section of Philadelphia. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1955 he join the US Air Force and proudly served his country. In 1957 he married Lonnie and they lived in Nebraska on Lincoln Air Force Base. After his discharge they returned to Philadelphia and he took advantage of the GI Bill by going to the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology where he earned a degree in electronics. He was employed by Altec Lansing where he used his skills In the audio sound industry. It was not long before Gary’s hard work and knowledge was noticed. He climbed the ranks quickly and before too long began traveling nationally and internationally as Director of Sales and Marketing for Altec.
In 2001 Gary and his wife moved from Richboro to Heritage Creek where he was active on several committees, and eventually served as President of the Board of Directors for many years. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family and friends. Gary was also a 50-year Mason with the Herman-Humboldt Lodge.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his son Mark William Rilling and his wife Judy of Richboro and his daughter Kristina Ferrara, his two brothers Alfred Rilling and his wife Lois of Lancaster and Hans Rilling and his wife Karen of Warrington. He is also survived by his 4 grandchildren Amy, Sarah, Michael and Rebecca O'Neill and her husband Bryant. Gary was preceded in death by his son in law Michael Ferrara.
His family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday October 6th from 9:30AM until his Funeral Service 11:00AM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown Richboro Road (at Holland Rd.) Richboro, PA 18954. His interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Guardians of the National Cemetery, P.O. Box 233, Newtown, PA 18940 or to a Charity of the Donor's Choice.
