James L. Townsend of Newtown and formerly of Langhorne for 34 years died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne. He was 84.

He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Tritschler Townsend.

Born in Philadelphia, James was the son of the late James H. Townsend and Ruth Petit.

James had a long successful career working for the Reading Rail Road, Conrail, and eventually Amtrak before retiring. James was a long time parishioner of the Church of St. Andrew and he loved being a resident at Pickering Manor. He enjoyed baseball, football, golf, traveling to every state and taking a cruise on the Queen Elizabeth II through Europe, but he cherished the quality times he spent with his family and closest friends. James will be greatly missed but always loved by everyone who had the pleasure to know him.

James is survived by his loving and devoted children: Susan E. Dugan and her husband Tim, James J. Townsend and his wife Theresa, Lisa Dutter and her husband Mike, Dianne Townsend, and Matthew Townsend and his wife Jennifer. He is also survived by his brother David Townsend, 13 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.

James’ family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, September 27, 2016 from 7:00 to 9:00PM in the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd.) Richboro, PA 18954 and everyone is invited to join his family for his Funeral Mass 11:00AM on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at the Olde Church of St. Andrew 135 S. Sycamore St. Newtown, PA 18940. His interment will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Pickering Manor Home, 226 N. Lincoln Ave, Newtown, PA 18940.
