Lois B. Hegelein, of Southampton, PA, passed into eternity on Thursday, September 15, 2016, at Abington Memorial Hospital at age 85. Lois was the beloved wife of the late Alan R. Hegelein. Known for her caring nature, deep faith, and sense of humor, Lois leaves a legacy of love – for people and for the Lord. She summarized her full and fruitful decades with the song: “I've had a wonderful life, the Lord's been so good to me.”
Born in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of the late Sterling and Lillian (Nelson) Barlow and lived in Mount Vernon, NY, during her childhood years. Becoming a teacher was her dream. Lois received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree through the State University of New York at Potsdam and was a former resident of New City, NY, as well as Doylestown, PA.
Mrs. Hegelein taught elementary school for almost 30 years, most of which were in second grade at Little Tor Elementary School in New City, NY. While living in New City, she was also very active in the ministries of Park Evangelical Free Church and enjoyed many summers at Lake Wallenpaupack.
Lois Hegelein thrived in Bucks County for the past 27 years, and has been enjoying many dear friendships at Southampton Estates during the past 6 years. She and her late husband were members of Old York Road County Club, as well as First Baptist Church of Doylestown.
She is survived by her two children and their spouses, Bruce and Janice Hegelein of Rochester, MI, and Barbara and Keith Brown, of Newtown, PA, as well as five grandchildren and spouses: Rebecca (Hegelein) and Kaleb Wakeman, Heather Joy Brown, Kirstin (Hegelein) and Tyler Alles, David Keith Brown, and Timothy Alan Hegelein. She also delighted in the beginning years of her one great-granddaughter, Courtney Lynn Wakeman.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Lois’ Life Celebration on Saturday, October 1, 2016, at 11:00 AM in the Auditorium of Southampton Estates, 238 Street Rd., Southampton, PA 18966. Her interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ACTS Samaritan Fund at Southampton Estates, Southampton, PA, 18966.
