Robert M. Colavita, of Holland, died peacefully on Thursday, August 11, 2016, at St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne. He was 84.
“Bob” as he was known to family and friends, was born in Philadelphia and was the beloved husband of 56 years to Jean B. Fonte Colavita. He was the devoted son of the late Michael and Eva Laurelli Colavita and father of the late Robert M. Colavita, Jr.
After graduating high school, Bob proudly served our country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. After his naval service, Bob turned his focus on becoming a Professional Hair Stylist and started his own Salon known as 191 Beauty Salon in Bala Cynwyd for over 30 years. He eventually sold his salon and went to work for Saks 5th Ave, and he was presently working for Millennium Hair Salon in Wynnewood. He was a career Hair Stylist who had a following no matter where he went and family members were always welcome in his “Chair.”
Bob was an active communicant of St. Bede the Venerable Parish since 1973; he served on the Liturgy committee and has been head usher for many years. He loved sports and enjoyed playing softball, basketball, watching old movies on TCM and most of all, spending time with his family. His home and property showed his talent and love for gardening. Holiday’s have been special for Bob; his Italian cooking skills and special dinners will always be remembered. He was a man with a firm handshake and a genuine smile that will be remembered for a long time to come.
In addition to his beloved wife, Bob is survived by his dear children and their spouses; Lisa Ann DeYoung and her husband Robert G. Sr., Diana Theresa Nolan and her husband Dr. John P. Jr., and Michael Robert Colavita as well as his sister Dorothy Steffe and her husband Joseph. He is also survived by 6 dear grandchildren; Scott, Christina, Robert, Brianna, Joseph, Angela and 3 dear step grandchildren; John Robert, Matt and Ann Marie.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Wednesday, August 17, from 9:00am until his Funeral Mass at 11:00 am at St. Bede the Venerable Church 1071 Holland Rd. Holland. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery, Langhorne.
