Sergeant Major John Herman Wunder III, U.S. Army Retired of Langhorne and formerly of Clarks Summit, PA died peacefully on Wednesday, July 20th at Attleboro Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was 86.
For 33 years, John was the beloved husband of the late Leokadia K. Martz Wunder and married 10 years to the late Theresa C. Brock Wunder, and was the loving father of the late Emil Wunder.
Born in Philadelphia, PA he was the son of the late John H., II and Helene Gerbrick Wunder.
John proudly ascended through the ranks of the United States Army during his career of service that included deployments defending freedom during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He was also stationed in Germany, Italy, Massachusetts, Virginia and PA. After retiring from the military, John was Head of Security for the University of Scranton where he earned an Associates Degree in Criminal Law.
John enjoyed Golfing with friends, working with wood, reading fine literature, supporting the Phillies through thick and thin, but above all, the love he had for our country and for his family stood pinnacle to his existence.
John is survived by his loving children and their spouses; John H. Wunder IV and Kathe of Ivyland and Agnes Mazzaccaro and Pete of Newtown. He is also survived by his two granddaughters and their spouses, Marnie DeVries (Todd) and Tara Peeples (Scott), and his four great grandchildren; Mack and Kate DeVries and Teagan and Keeley Peeples.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Interment Service with Military Honors precisely at 11:15am on Thursday, July 28, 2016 in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 850 Highland Rd. Newtown, PA 18940.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Guardians of the National Cemetery, P.O. Box 233 Newtown, PA 18940.
