Joseph Arthur Savage Jr.
Joseph Arthur Savage Jr. of Doylestown passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Tuesday May 13, 2014, surrounded by his family at Chandler Hall Hospice, Newtown. He was 79.
He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara Dean Savage.
Born in Philadelphia on January 9, 1935, he was the oldest son of the late Joseph A. Sr. and Helen “Nellie” King Savage, grandfather of the late Benjamin Traub and brother of the late Mary Jane Marcolina and the late David Savage.
Joe graduated from Lincoln High School in Philadelphia, Class of l954. He served as a Seabee in the Navy during the Korean War
Joe married his high school sweetheart, Barbara (“Bobbie”) in 1961 and they resided in Southampton for the next 35 years. He was an active Southampton Republican Committee member and the Southampton Sports Club booster for many years. In 1981, he opened his own business, Savage Steel located in Bensalem. He was a past president of the Iron League in Philadelphia serving from 1995 to 1996. In 1996, he and his wife moved to Manahawkin, NJ to enjoy their retirement at the shore.
In his leisure time, he was an avid reader, sometimes reading two books a day, and especially enjoyed Western movies and television.
In 2008, Joe moved back to Bucks County and enjoyed an active social life. He ate breakfast every morning with his friends at the Eagle Diner in New Hope and spent many hours relaxing at the American Legion Post in Lambertville, NJ.
He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
He is survived by his three children, Jamie S.Traub and her husband, Scott, of Mooresville, NC, Kevin J. Savage and his wife, Janet, of Garnet Valley, PA and Susan DeLuca and her husband, Andy, of Doylestown with whom he lived for the past 6 years. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Joseph, Charles and Molly Savage and Dana DeLuca, and his two brothers, John Savage and his wife, Jean, of Langhorne and Richard Savage and his wife, Joan, of Philadelphia, PA.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Monday, May 19. 2014, from 8:30 AM to 10:15 AM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Road (at Holland Road), Richboro, PA 18954 and to his Funeral Mass 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Second Street Pike at Knowles Avenue, Southampton.
Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park, Feasterville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Deborah Heart Hospital Foundation, 212 Browns Mills Road, Trenton, NJ 08015 or Chandler Hall Hospice, 99 Barclay Street, Newtown, PA l8940.
