Alfred E. Hales Jr. of Chalfont died Tuesday, May 13, 2014, after a lengthy illness. He was 77.

He was the beloved husband of 50 years to the late Annemarie Krieg Hales who died in 2007. He was the son of the late Alfred E. Sr. and Ruth P. Baumgaertel Hales.

Al was a resident of Chalfont for the past 47 years. He was a graduate of Olney High School, class of 1955. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and served proudly, his technical training took him to the far corners of the world, and he retired as a Staff Sergeant.

Al’s professional career as an electrical engineer and computer programmer for 30 years were spent with Unisys Company for most of his career and eventually he retired from Sage Technologies.

Al enjoyed spending his time tinkering with computers and looked forward to the quiet times that he spent on his boat in the Chesapeake Bay.

Al is survived by his dearest daughters, Carolyn R. Schneider and her husband, John, and Donna M. Heaney. He is also survived by his 3 grandchildren, Bryan L. Kosling and his wife Sandra, Erika Kosling, and Allison M. Lamson and his 5 great-grandchildren, Kenneth, Anthony, Trinity, Lana and Lina and his sister, Patricia R. Mayrhofer and her husband, Theodor.

Al’s family will receive condolences from 9:00 am until his Funeral Service 10:00 am on Saturday May 17th in the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home 241 E. Butler Ave. (at Sandy Ridge Rd.) New Britain, PA 18901.

Interment will follow at Whitemarsh Memorial Park in Prospectville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
