Donald Charles Marr, of Lower Gwynedd, PA died peacefully on Friday, April 29, 2016, at Spring House Estates, Lower Gwynedd. He was 84.
He was the beloved husband of 62 years to Joan Davis Marr. Born in Everett, WA, he was the son of the late Henry and Florence Buck Marr and brother of the late Richard Henry Marr.
Don was a resident of Lower Gwynedd for the past 9 years, having formerly lived in Plymouth Township for over 47 years. Don was a graduate of Haddon Heights High School, class of 1949 and received his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bucknell University in 1953 where he was a member of the Kappa Delta Rho Fraternity. He retired after a long professional career in the aerospace industry working with Pratt and Whitney, General Electric and Lockheed Martin for over 45 years. Don gave his time and talents to Plymouth Township, a community he truly enjoyed by serving on the Township Council for 4 years and a Republican Committeeman for many years.
Don supported his children’s activities; he spent many happy hours driving the equipment truck transporting the Band’s Musical Instruments and the Color Guard Flags to all their events. He was very talented with his hands and enjoyed woodworking and cabinet making and used his engineering skills in making model airplanes and ships.
Don’s family came first and foremost, the camping trips to the Jersey shore every summer, had family and friends talking for hours when they got together. He will be sadly missed by the love of his life and soul mate, Joan, and his devoted family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his 2 daughters, Patricia A. Wiesenburger and her husband, George, and Carol M. Zeuner and her husband, Tom, 4 dear grandchildren, Andrea and Courtney Zeuner and Bryan and Andrew Wiesenburger. He is also survived by 7 nieces and nephews.
Don’s Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at 1:00 PM in the Auditorium of Spring House Estates, 728 Norristown Road, Lower Gwynedd, PA 19002.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the ACTS Samaritan Fund, c/o Spring House Estates, 728 Norristown Road, Lower Gwynedd, PA 19002 or St. Thomas Memorial Fund at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 247, Fort Washington, PA 19034.
