Earl “Gil” Gilbert, Jr. of Holland died Saturday April 16, 2016 at Twining Village Health Care in Holland. He was 88.

Gil was the beloved husband of 60 years to the late Elaine R. Haist Gilbert, who died on February 15, 2016.

Born and raised in Kensington, Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Joseph E. Sr. and Elsie Black Gilbert; he was the brother of late Elsie Rutter, Doris Stevens.

Gil was a former resident of Richboro before moving to Holland in 2012. He was a graduate of Northeast High School, class of 1945 and received his undergraduate degree from Temple University. He proudly served in the United States Army, 28th Inf. Div. He and his wife Elaine were charter members of Advent Lutheran Church in Richboro. Gil also served as Treasurer and Finance Chairmen for many years.

Gil’s professional career spanned over 35 years as a bookkeeper working for William C. Whitman, Sporting Goods Company. He then went to work for C.H.M.C. Inc., a computer service firm for over 10 years before retiring. He was a member and Past President of the North East Lions Club and was a member of the 10 Gallon Club for the American Red Cross as a blood donor. He was a contributing member of the Northampton Athletic Association for 16 years and was Treasurer for several terms.

Gil loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He was the number one supporter of his grandchildren in all of their sporting activities; he and his late wife Elaine never missed a game. He and Elaine will now be sitting in the front row, cheering for them all. He will be sadly missed not only by family but all those who came to love him for his quick wit and smile.

Gil is survived by his two sons; Bruce Gilbert and his wife Melissa of Arlington, VA and Scott Gilbert and his wife Michele of Furlong. He is also survived by his brother, Donald Gilbert (late Sue), his four cherished grandchildren, Christine, Sarah, Ryan and Samantha, and his brother-in-law Matt Haist.

Relatives and friends are invited to express their condolences on Thursday, April 21, 2016 from 8:30 AM until his Funeral Service 10:00 AM in the Advent Lutheran Church, 45 Worthington Mill Road, Richboro, PA 18954. His interment will follow in William Penn Cemetery, Philadelphia.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Advent Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 840, Richboro, PA 18954.
