Robert J. Casey of Newtown, PA died peacefully surrounded by his family at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne on Thursday, January 21, 2016. He was 84.
Robert was the beloved husband of 62 years to Agnes T. Halpin Casey.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late William and Margaret White Casey and the father of the late Robert J. Casey Jr.
Robert was a former resident of Northeast Philadelphia before moving to Newtown 1988. He was a graduate of Temple University, Class of 1954 as a result of being awarded a Soccer Scholarship. He was a member of the College National Championship Team in 1951 and 1953 and was inducted in the Temple University Sports Hall of Fall. Upon his graduation, he became an educator with the School District of Philadelphia from 1954 until his retirement in 1985. He continued his employment with the City of Philadelphia by working with the Department of Recreation at the Kensington Recreation Center. He mentored many successful athletes by coaching soccer at Olney High School and many other athletic associations. His true joy and passion in life was the quality times spent with his family and the endless love and support that he shared with them. Robert will be truly missed by his family and by all who have had the pleasure of knowing him.
In addition to his wife Agnes, Robert is survived by his loving children and their spouses: Donna Donohue and her husband Kevin of Richboro, Marlene Dwyer and her husband Steve of Langhorne and William Casey and his wife Elizabeth of Churchville. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Casey, Kristy, Caitlin, Kelly, Sean, Shannon, Brianna, Meghan and Patrick and his great grandchildren, Shayla, Taryn, Liam, Natalie and Alexis.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 from 9:00am until his Funeral Mass at 10:00am in St. Dominic Church, 8504 Frankford Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19136. Interment will follow at St. Dominic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to: HOPE Ministry c/o Church of St. Andrew, 81 Swamp Rd., Newtown, PA 18940.
