James J. Mitchell, Jr. of Southampton died Saturday May 31, 2014 at Richboro Care and Rehabilitation Center. He was 73.

Born in Philadelphia on June 26, 1940, he was the son of the late James J. Sr. and Irene Mitchell. James lived in Philadelphia with his beloved wife, the late Pearl Mitchell until 10 years ago when he and Pearl moved to Southampton.

James was a retired neon lighting installer for Miller Brewing Company who loved to tell jokes. In his youth he spent time as ranch hand in Oklahoma and drove a Good Humor Ice Cream truck in Philadelphia. In his leisure he enjoyed reading, playing pool, working on home projects, and spending quality time with his family who affectionately called him “Poppy”. He was a member of the North and Southampton Reformed Church in Churchville and the Ben Wilson Senior Center in Warminster.

James is survived by 2 sisters, his step-daughter Holly Onofrio of Churchville, a daughter-in-law, Joyce Ludlow of Doylestown, beloved grandchildren: Heather Dittman of Arlington Heights, Illinois, P. Nicholas Onofrio of Churchville, Allison Ludlow of Bethlehem, Graham Ludlow of Doylestown, and Andrea Schlegel-Wallace of Dublin, five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing from 11:00am until his Funeral Service 12:00pm on Thursday June 5, 2014 in the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Road (at Holland Road) Richboro.

Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park in Feasterville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Ben Wilson Senior Center, 580 Delmont Avenue, Warminster, PA 18974.
