Jean L. Taylor of Twining Village in Holland, PA, died peacefully Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Twining Village Health Care. She was 95.
Jean was the beloved wife of the late Charles H. Taylor Jr.
Born in Martinsburg, Pennsylvania, Jean was the daughter of the late Fred F. Lininger Ph.D. and Mildred Tobias Lininger and sister of the late Fred T. Lininger.
Jean was the first girl in State College, PA to become an Eaglet Girl Scout. She spent summers as a teenage Girl Scout Counselor on the waterfront at Camp Baree. Later she became the leader of a Girl Scout troop in Philadelphia. She earned her degree from Penn State University and taught Home Economics at Millersburg High School and later served as a substitute teacher in the Philadelphia School District. Her love of educating youth was surpassed by the love she shared for her husband and for her children. Jean left teaching for the greater cause of raising a family and she exemplified the role of the consummate homemaker.
During her later years, Jean moved into Twining Village and was an active resident. Jean served as Secretary for the Resident Association and the nominating committee for the association; she was also a member of the recreation committee, and she chaired the committee for the Parkinson’s walk. Jean was also active with the piano entertainment at Twining.
Jean is survived by her children, Charles Bruce Taylor and his wife Judith of Rohnert Park, CA, and Kathryn T. Sailer and her husband Steven H. Sailer Esq. of Washington Crossing, PA. Jean is also survived by her 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren
Jean’s family will receive friends on Saturday, December 26, 2015 from 9:00am until her Funeral Service 10:00am in the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 East Butler Avenue (at Sandy Ridge Road) New Britain, PA 18901. Jean’s interment will follow in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Prospectville.
