Richard W. Gladstone of Newtown, PA died peacefully on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was 68.
He was the beloved husband of Diane M. Garrison Gladstone for 48 years.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Henry E. and Isabelle B. Thompson Gladstone and brother of the late Harry Gladstone.
Mr. Gladstone was a resident of Newtown since 1979. He graduated from Penn State University with his bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 1969 and went on to earn his master’s degree in Social Work at Temple University, Class of 1971. Early on, he worked as a counselor for the Youth Development Center and a social worker at Byberry State Hospital. Immediately following he was employed by the Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services of the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare. After a few days of retirement, Richard decided he wanted to continue his work in mental health by consulting. Most recently he consulted for the Philadelphia Department of Behavorial Health.
In his leisure time, he was enthusiastic about boating and skeet shooting. Being a dedicated family man, he looked forward to the special times spent with his family. Richard will be remembered as a wonderful husband, devoted father, and loving Poppy, brother and a faithful friend.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Amy Diane Ross and her husband, Thomas, of Feasterville, PA and Wendy Lynn Eby and her husband, Matthew, of York Springs, PA, his sister, Isabelle Butz of Mechanicsburg, PA and his four loving grandchildren, Logan and Devon Ross, Hope Fureman, and Matthew Eby Jr. He will be sadly missed by his chocolate Labrador, Jasmine.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Saturday, October 31, 2015, from 10:00 AM until his Funeral Service 12:00 Noon at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Road (at Holland Road), Richboro, PA 18954. His interment will be private.
